Surely, most people (if not all), have had something that they started collecting for a long period of time. The things people usually collect are those that they found interesting and meaningful to them. Collectibles can range from free stuff like leaves, rocks, shells, stamps, and bottle caps, to those that cost money like action figures, figurines, t-shirts, plastic and models. Collectibles can be anything, really, as long as the person who collects them believe they are worth collecting.

So what are the reasons why people collect them?

Satisfaction – Collecting things is something that most people just love to do. The satisfaction that a collector feels whenever a piece is added to his collection is quite nice. The feeling of accomplishment is much, much greater when the collection is completed.

Interest – Some collectibles are specifically tailored for people who hold interest in them. Some examples include collectible baseball cards for baseball fans or figurines for those who like cute stuff such as Precious Moments figurines. Some people’s collections would include those that are currently in style or fashionable for that period of time. The problem with those types of collections is that when the fad is gone, interest in collecting them also wanes.

Fun – Collecting collectibles can be fun so many people do it as a hobby. Seeing one’s own collection growing can be particularly fun so collecting each piece becomes a habit.

Trading – There are people who just like to collect rare or limited pieces of certain collectibles and earn a profit out of trading them. On the other hand, there are people who like to collect collectibles that they can use to trade for other stuff, like pieces for their own collection.

Selling – You will often find people selling completed sets of collectibles online for a really high price. Several pieces can also be found being sold for a price especially the limited or rare ones. These are usually collectors who feel satisfied with their collection and would rather make money rather than keep them.
