  • Always consider condition. Many items will have a certain amount of wear and tear but you want to make that nothing is sever enough to really damage the investement potential. If you want to turn a profit then an antique needs to be in good condition.
  • The rarity of an item can increase value even if the condition is not great.
  • Beauty is sometimes in the eye of the beholder and often times an antiques value is simply based on how much someone likes it. Buying antiques is not just about finding a way to make money and if an items catches your eye that it might be worth getting.
  • You need to also consider the cost. Antiques do not always allow for negotiation. Therfore, you must have some knowledge about the overall value for any item before you buy it, otherwise you may well pay too much. You also need to make sure not to buy a reproduction, fake, or forgery. If the price and condition of an item are too good to be true then you need to investigate further.
